Wire Wrapping Class

Bob and Nancy Hicks will lead the class

Thursday, September 9th at 2:00pm in the Community Room

Nancy Hicks has twisted wire for about 22 years.  Bob and Nancy Hicks have gone through cycles - to begin with, they twisted the wire around the object a lot leaving most of the original object unexposed.  Then, they used less wire leaving more of the stone visible.  Now Nancy’s concept is to frame and hold the stone or object. When she can make the wire seem to disappear, it is a good design.

We will be using 24 gauge craft wire for the class.  Nancy will provide wires of various colors and stones. A fee of $10.00 will cover the costs of supplies.  If attendees have wire cutter and smooth nose pliers, they should bring them. Pliers are not really necessary but helpful.

We will start with learning how to twist wires, to control the wire.  The first project will be how to make a small tree using beads for leaves.  There are patterns for various trees but we will not be using a pattern to begin with.

For the next project, we will wrap a stone or another object with wire. We can use one, two, three or more wires - it all depends on the shape.  With free form wrapping, there is no set pattern to be followed.
